Acting for Health

DIY members role-playing a doctor and patient. One member wears a red t-shirt and sits in a wheelchair. Another member is next to them, wearing a white coat and holding up a stethoscope.

A still from one of our Acting for Health resources.

In 2025, DIY Gamechangers developed three short films called ‘Acting for Health’. The films are based on members’ lived experiences of the healthcare system.

They build on the experience gained by DIY Gamechangers delivering training with medical students or Occupational Therapy students. Because this training can’t always be long-term, we are making the films available on our website.

DIY Leaders hope that even more healthcare professionals can watch, share, and save these films. Download the Acting for Health Resource Booklet to share our work with others – or use the links below to watch the films on Vimeo. We hope they can be useful in developing more inclusive communication in healthcare settings.

Listen to Us!

This film explores why it is important for health professionals to value the lived experience of people with learning disabilities.

Talk to Me!

This film highlights the need for good communication between health professionals and people with learning disabilities – and offers some top tips.

DIY’s Five Ways to Wellbeing

This film shows how DIY Theatre Company uses a technique called “human machines” to explore the Five Ways to Wellbeing (developed by the New Economics Foundation).

Thanks to filmmakers Hilary Easter-Jones and Ian Dean for co-creating these films with our members, and to Sarah Bray for designing the resource booklets.
