Lets Create + Connect !

Here are lots of ideas and resources to help you get creative whenever you want. Please feel free to use them!

This page was put together as a response to the Coronavirus outbreak in 2019. The ideas and resources found here helped DIY, and other artists with learning disabilities, to keep creative and connected whilst staying safe at home. Even though we can now meet up in person its sometimes nice to work in your own time at home – so please take a look, we hope you find something to inspire you.

5 ways to Wellbeing

This page is organised around the 5 ways to Wellbeing, the 5 things we can do to keep ourselves healthy (New Economics Foundation 2011). This great colouring book, made by Leah Witton, will help you to think about the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. 5 Ways to Wellbeing – colouring book

'Connecting' with DIY figures dancing around

Connect – talk and listen, be there, feel connected.

Even while we are not able to meet up in person we can still be there for each other. These resources help us to think about how we can connect with others and explore new ways of communicating with each other.

'Giving' with DIY figures dancing around

Giving – give your time, your words, your presence.

It’s important for all of us to make a positive contribution and when we’re not meeting up it may feel like we can’t do this. But there’s so much that all of us can still give – whether it’s giving our ideas for a project or sharing ideas and suggestions by creating a review. These resources are designed to help us give our time and our ideas to others.

'Learning' with DIY figures dancing around

Keep Learning – embrace new experiences, see opportunities, surprise yourself!

Learning new things can really help us to feel positive and motivated. Some of these resources share the learning from DIY projects. Others are about giving something new a go. There’s no right or wrong way to do any of these activities – there’s just your way.

Are you interested in film making?

Think about where you are spending most of your time during Lockdown. Can you film the view from your window? Can you film an activity or a hobby you have been doing during Lockdown?

Are you interested in making music?

Do you like art and making things?

Don’t forget to share what you do with us on social media! We’d love to see your versions!

'Being Active' with DIY figures dancing around

Being Active – do what you can, enjoy what you do, move your mood.

It can be difficult to keep active while we’re stuck at home. These resources will help us to keep active in body and mind and help to move our mood as well. Once again there really is  no right or wrong way to do any of these activities – there’s just your way.

'Taking Notice' with DIY figures dancing around

Take Notice – remember the simple things that give you joy.

These resources help us to focus on the present and take notice of the simple things around us. When we’re colouring a picture or taking a photograph we are in the present moment, rather than thinking about the past or imagining the future.
