Hanging by a thread

Let DIY Theatre Company take you on a magical journey into the forest….

DIY’s new multi-sensory performance Hanging by a Thread is DIY’s third show specifically designed for sensory audiences.

Hanging by a Thread is touring now! So happy that the audience is loving the show.

We are so happy that pupils at Piper Hill Post 16 College loved the show! We were able to follow up the performance with a certificate presentation to 11 learners who recently completed their Bronze Arts Awards working with DIY Theatre Company.

It’s so exciting to be sharing our multi-sensory show with new audiences.

Staff from both classes have been to see me to say how much they loved the sessions, and that pupils were so engaged and got so much from it.”
Feedback Springwood Primary School

The Hanging by a Thread tour continued with performances at Firwood School in Bolton and at Springwood Primary School in Salford in March. Future performances are booked at Langworthy Cornerstone, Waterside and St Georges (for Aspire in Salford) and in the July we will be performing outdoors as part of the Darnhill Festival in Rochdale.

Do get in touch diytheatre@gmail.com if you would like DIY to perform for your organisation or school.

We are going to follow the trees
Into the woods, Into the woods
Full of wonder, what will we see?
Into the woods, into the woods

Created by DIY’s skilled company of artists with learning disabilities, the show invites intimate audiences to connect with the natural world.

They really enjoyed going into the woods – everyone wanted to do it. They invited each-other into the forest”

Interactive theatre, songs, live music, puppets and sensory props combine  to create a magical experience for each audience member.

Pre and post show workshops explore the themes of nature connectedness and environment through the senses.

All the children absolutely loved the whole day!”

[It] Enriches the preparing for adulthood aspect of the curriculum. Engaging with the wider community.”
Teacher, Firwood High School, May 2023

Because the theme of environment is so central to the show it was very important that most of the costumes and props were re-purposed or made from recycled materials by our designer Nerissa Cargill Thompson. Please visit our news from December 2022.

Puppeteer Beka Haigh worked with us to create some wonderful puppets for the performance and musicians Sarah Atter and Sophie Coward worked with the team to create original live music for the show.
