Who else do we work with?

At DIY, are very keen to work with many different practitioners who offer a variety of art forms. We like to try new ideas and ways of working and love meeting new people and showing them how we work. We like to develop our skills and increase the different approaches to making theatre.

Des Butler – Video worker

We worked with Des on Platform 1 and In Other Words. Des does video work for our shows and also helps us to create audio tracks. Des has also been a video worker on some of our Arts Award projects in schools.

Nerissa Cargill-Thompson – Designer

Nerissa designed Strange Capers, Platform 1 and In Other Words. She has made a floor cloth, masks and our sets and costumes.

Danny Start – Writer

Danny is one of the writers who worked with us on In Other Words. He wrote Don’t Call Me Babe and helped us to develop our comedy skills. He also helped us to make the play our own.

Aelish Micheal – Writer

Aelish is a writer who worked with us on In Other Words. She wrote Ellie’s Story – a poem based on accounts and experiences from all of our lives. We are taking Ellie’s Story on tour in 2011.

Chantal Oakes – Graphic designer

Chantal has designed the publicity for many DIY shows. With the Friday group, she designed our new DIY folder which we use when we send out information about the company.

Mitch Oldham – Musician

Mitch worked with us on Platform 1 – helping us to create musical effects that developed into a soundtrack in the play. With Mitch, we learnt new skills – like how to play percussion instruments.

Nigel Hillier – Photographer

Nigel has been taking photos of us for a long time! His pictures were shown at our exhibition Doing it….Our Way and have been seen at the Lowry, Salford Art Gallery and Museum, The Cornerstones Centre, Salford Arts Theatre and our rehearsal space at the Angel Centre.

No Nonsense Theatre Company

We have done mask and puppet workshops with No Nonsense Theatre Company. They also came and performed as part of our Arts Award project at Chatsworth School.

Suzanne Harulow – Visual artist

Suzanne came and helped the young people at Chatsworth School design their own tee shirts as part of our Arts Award project there. She worked alongside DIY company members to make tee shirts based on the pupils’ heroes and heroines.

Prescap

We worked with Bernie Velvick from Prescap who came and helped us to make our DIY tee shirts. We came up with the design and then Bernie taught us how to do the screen printing. Look out for them – they are bright blue!
